Timothy L. Sifers was born in Kansas City. He graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania and returned home to obtain his law degree from the School of Law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. While in law school, Tim was the recipient of the American Bar Association National Trial Competition Award and the Order of Barristers for superior accomplishment in Trial and Appellate Advocacy.
Upon graduation, Tim was a law clerk in the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit of Missouri. As a clerk, Tim was able to see trial advocacy from the court’s perspective. After clerking, Tim entered private practice and immediately began working on complex litigation focusing on pharmaceutical and securities litigation.
Tim started working on pharmaceutical cases by representing clients nationwide in the Fen-Phen litigation and is currently litigating other pharmaceutical cases including Avandia, Byetta, Yaz and Accutane. Tim’s experience in securities litigation includes representing mutual fund shareholders in derivative claims alleging excessive fees in violation of the Investment Company Act. His work on these cases assisted in a confidential settlement for millions of dollars. Tim continues to represent clients with individual claims against broker-dealers and financial advisors in federal court and NASD arbitration.
Experienced Record
Tim had experience in the medical malpractice and nursing home litigation arena as well and joined The Potts Law Firm beginning in June of 2005. Tim is a Partner at the firm overseeing much of the local docket while also specializing in consumer protection class actions and mass torts. Tim is licensed to practice in Missouri, Kansas, the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, and the United States District Court District of Kansas. Tim has tried numerous cases and recently obtained the following Verdicts and Settlements:
- A $12.1 million verdict in the US District Court of Kansas in March of 2009 against an ER doctor who was negligent in her assessment of a young girl, resulting in quadriplegia. Tim was largely responsible for handling damages at trial
- A $2.3 million settlement during trial against a hospital for negligent credentialing of a surgeon
- A $3 million confidential settlement against a hospital and physicians for post operative complications in a premature child
- A $3 million verdict in Platte County, Missouri against a nursing home in 2007. Tim was on the trial team with Derek Potts and Tom Cartmell of Wagstaff & Cartmell.
