Lancaster Hotel Explosion Injures Worker

An electrical vault explosion that took place in the basement of the Lancaster Hotel on August 20th left one construction worker with burn injuries, according to the Houston Fire Department.

At around 11:35 a.m. Monday morning, firefighters rushed to the Lancaster Hotel located at 701 Texas Avenue in Houston, Texas in response to a reported high-rise fire. When first responders arrived, they found that an underground electrical vault had exploded.

Houston Fire Department spokeswoman said the force from the explosion caused the cover to blow off the vault, burning a nearby construction worker. The man was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for burns to his arms and back. His condition has not yet been disclosed.

According to the Lancaster Hotel, the building was closed for renovations and no one was inside the building at the time of the incident. The Houston Fire Department turned the scene over to an electric company for further investigation.
