Hockley Recycling Plant Fire

On Saturday, August 21, 2021, a massive fire erupted at the recycling plant located at 17360 Premium Drive near Highway 290. The Waller County Sheriff’s Office has identified the plant as a VLS Recovery facility.  The fire started in a vat of chemicals inside the plant.  The fire then spread to other parts of the facility joined into a massive inferno.  A lack of water at the facility was the reason the fire took hours to be put out. An evacuation order was set in place for residents within a ½ mile radius of the plant.  County officials are currently testing the quality of the air.

Materials set on fire include used and recycled motor oil and recycled plastics.  These materials are known carcinogens, agents that can cause cancer.  In addition, when these chemicals are airborne due to being set on fire, they can land on properties miles away.  If these materials contact the roof of a house, it is possible that the entire roof must be replaced.  It is important that an experienced property damage lawyer helps you with your case!

“No property owner should be worried that their industrial neighbor’s negligence will cause them injury or property damage.  Now the residents of Hockley and its surrounding neighborhoods must concern themselves about breathing in toxic fumes and/or their homes being ruined because chemicals were engulfed in flames.  This is conduct detrimental to the community and VRS Recovery should own up to its negligence” said Potts Law Firm founder and National Managing Partner, Derek H. Potts.
